Meet Our Veterinary Team

Our veterinary team is made up of highly skilled professionals with diverse backgrounds and training from leading universities across Australia. Many of our vets also hold additional qualifications and specialized certifications, bringing a deep well of expertise to our clinic.

This blend of experience allows us to offer well-rounded, comprehensive care. With a team that includes both seasoned practitioners and newer graduates, we strike the perfect balance between proven clinical experience and fresh, evidence-based approaches.

Each of our veterinarians has unique areas of interest—from surgery and internal medicine to dermatology and preventative care—but all are fully equipped to manage the wide range of cases seen in a busy mixed-animal practice. Collaboration and continuous learning are at the heart of what we do, ensuring your pets always receive the highest standard of care.

Dr Andrew “Bettsy” Bett
BAgSc (hons) BVSc – Senior Veterinarian

Andrew, better known as “Bettsy,” has been a cornerstone of the Warby Street Vet Clinic team since 2001. Growing up on a farm surrounded by animals sparked his early interest in veterinary medicine, which he pursued at the University of Queensland. With over two decades of experience, Bettsy has worked across Australia and the UK, and has further broadened his veterinary knowledge through travels across Asia, Europe, Russia, and the United States.

Bettsy enjoys all aspects of mixed practice, with particular interests in small animal care, equine medicine and surgery. As the clinic he’s deeply committed to creating a supportive and positive environment for both the team and clients — making Warby Street a better place to work and a welcoming space for pets and their families.

When he’s not at the clinic, you’ll likely find Bettsy flyfishing — either in the local rivers or halfway across the world — or off exploring the High Country and some of Australia’s most remote landscapes. He thrives on the camaraderie of a great team and believes in finding moments of fun throughout each workday.

Dr Monica Kunze
BSci DVM – Veterinarian

Dr Monica  joined Warby Street Veterinary Hospital in January 2024. She  graduated from the University of Melbourne, originally from Canada, Monica grew up on a commercial dairy and poultry farm, where her passion for animal health and large animal medicine began. She also spent her early years riding horses—something that continues to shape her veterinary interests today.

Monica finds her work incredibly rewarding, particularly when she’s able to bring comfort to her patients and partner with clients to optimise the health and wellbeing of their animals. Her special interests lie in large animal development, surgery, and herd health, with a focus on equine and ruminant medicine. She has undertaken additional training in equine dentistry and diagnostics, and particularly enjoys equine dental work for the immediate relief it brings to her patients.

Monica also has continuing education experience in small animal medicine, surgery, dentistry, lambing and significant disease emergencies, giving her a well-rounded foundation across both companion and production animals.

A strong believer in community engagement, Monica enjoys volunteering with Pets in the Park and leading large animal information nights for local clients. Her approach is friendly and collaborative—always up for a chat and happy to support owners with clear, compassionate advice.

Outside of work, Monica enjoys hiking, horseback riding, and being outdoors. While she loves all animals, she has a particular soft spot for cattle and horses—especially during calving season!

Dr Sam Paterson
BSc DVM Veterinarian

Dr Sam Paterson has wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as he can remember — a passion sparked early on by watching Dr Harry on TV. Sam admired the way Dr Harry spoke with and listened to pet owners in a warm, open and friendly manner, and knew he wanted a career that supported not only animals, but the people and communities who love them.

Sam grew up in the Wangaratta area and is proud to now be working in and supporting the community he calls home.

He completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Animal Health and Disease, followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at the University of Melbourne. Sam also has additional training in Significant Disease Investigation, Lambing Support First Aid, and is Fear Free Certified, reflecting his strong commitment to low-stress, compassionate animal care.

Clinically, Sam has a broad range of interests including ruminant medicine (particularly sheep), ophthalmology (eye health), anaesthesia, and community veterinary work. The most rewarding part of his role is reuniting previously sick animals with their owners and seeing the positive impact that care and recovery can bring to both.

Sam’s approach to veterinary care is open, honest and empathetic, with a strong focus on understanding each owner’s individual circumstances. He is a passionate advocate for both the physical and psychological wellbeing of pets and consistently practises low-stress animal handling to ensure animals feel as safe and comfortable as possible.

Outside of the clinic, Sam enjoys hiking, fishing, collecting vinyl records (LPs), attending live music, and watching the cricket. He also volunteers with the Vets in the Park program, helping provide veterinary support to pets and owners in need.

At home, Sam shares his life with Pepper, a couch-loving dog, and Leo, a true ginger cat with the attitude to match.

Dr. Matt Boon

Veterinarian (BVSc)

Dr. Matt is an experienced and dedicated veterinarian with over 10 years in practice. He completed his Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) at James Cook University, where his lifelong love for animals evolved into a committed career in veterinary medicine. Matt was drawn to the profession by the unique challenge of diagnosing and solving problems for patients who cannot speak for themselves—a responsibility he finds both meaningful and motivating.

Matt has a strong passion for cattle reproduction and avian medicine, and his extensive knowledge in large-animal care allows our clinic to offer a comprehensive range of advanced services, including:

  • PregCheck® Ultrasound Pregnancy Testing
Foetal ageing, sexing, and twin checks to support smarter herd decisions.

  • BullCheck® Bull Fertility Testing
Ensuring herd sires are ready for joining season.

  • Advanced Reproductive Services
Artificial insemination, fixed-time AI programs, and tailored reproductive management advice.

  • BREEDPLAN® Carcase Scanning
Helping producers make informed genetic and performance decisions.

  • Disease Surveillance & Monitoring
Supporting herd health, productivity, and long-term management.

Matt’s most fulfilling moments come from saving animals in dire situations and being able to reunite them with their relieved owners. He also appreciates the strong bonds he forms with clients and their pets along the way.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time outdoors. You’ll often find him camping or kayaking during the summer months, and hitting the slopes to snowboard in winter. At home, he is kept entertained by his two dogs: Ed, a mixed-breed terrier with plenty of personality, and Polly, a brave and spirited Whippet who defies her breed’s reputation for shyness.
