RSPCA

In 1871 Victoria was the first state in Australia to create a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The ‘Royal’ was added in 1956 with recognition from the English Monarchy. In 1980 the various state and territory societies amalgamated to form RSPCA Australia. The mission of the RSPCA is to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.

The Wangaratta RSPCA shelter provides care for more than 1,200 unwanted and stray animals each year. A major part of its work is to care for these animals and then to organise for them to be “adopted” into new homes. It also has inspectors within the region that attend cruelty complaints received from the public. RSPCA Victoria receives more than 9,700 cruelty complaints each year and 46% are from regional Victoria. We have worked closely with the Wangaratta branch in both these endeavours for over 10 years.

Adopting a pet from the RSPCA is a great idea because it gives an animal in need a second chance. For more information please click on the links to the right.
