Microchipping
Microchipping puppies and kittens is now compulsory in Wangaratta as part of the registration process with the local council. It involves injecting an inert computer chip under the skin between the shoulder blades. The implant is about the size of a grain of rice and when read by a microchip scanner each chip returns a unique number. Whenever we microchip an animal this number is entered into the national database along with your address and contact information. If your pet is ever lost it will be checked for a microchip by the local veterinary hospital, the RSPCA or the local pound where it is found. The unique number that is returned is then used to find your contact details and reunite you with your pet.
Even though microchipping is only compulsory for new registrations we recommend that all animals are microchipped. The microchip causes no discomfort and is great insurance should your pet ever be lost.
To help with the added cost that comes with compulsory microchipping we have discounted our microchipping fee to $67.00
