All our nurses have attained or are in the midst of the coursework to attain their certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. This is the highest qualification available to veterinary nurses in Australia. Our nurses are also working towards additional related qualifications and continually attending seminars, conferences and courses to further improve their already stellar skills. Several of our nurses are also keen horsewomen so there is always an extra set of hands available to help with horses at the hospital.

There is a short biography of each of our nurses below.

Janet Naish

Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse

Janet is a local Wangaratta girl and began working at Warby Street in 2001. She hasn’t looked back since! She has completed a Certificate 4 in vet nursing and particularly enjoys the special wildlife cases that we receive at the hospital. Janet is a quiet and very efficient member of the Warby Street team. Outside work, Janet is devoted to her 3 daughters and her new grandchildren. Janet enjoys lead-light craft in her spare time and renovating her house.

Crystelle Van Ingen-Orr

Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse

Crystelle is another member of the sensational nursing team at Warby Street and has been with us since 2004. Crystelle has completed her Certificate 4 in vet nursing and particularly enjoys neonatal care, caesareans and caring for intensive care patients. When not looking after sick and injured animals, Crystelle loves spending time with her family and friends, including her pets. She also enjoys time outdoors such as camping and bushwalking, but being inside watching movies is pretty good too!

Loris Thompson

Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse

Loris has a special interest in wildlife. She began nursing at Warby Street Vet Hospital back in 1992 and is one of the longest standing members of the team. Loris did leave us briefly for a seachange down at Philip Island, but decided that she missed Warby Street too much and is now back here to stay. Loris’s special interests in veterinary practice include intensive care animals, surgery and wildlife, particularly native birds. In her spare time, Loris enjoys walking on the beach (at Philip Island, not in Wangaratta!), travelling, cross-country skiing, bike riding and socialising.

Amy Ledger

Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse

Amy is a valuable member of the nursing team. Her vet nursing background is with horses, having worked at the Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital in the past. She is now enjoying the challenge of working with our smaller more sharp toothed and clawed animal friends. When not at work she is kept busy by her young son Joshua. She is now twice as busy with the arrival of Nicholas, and maybe even three times as busy considering all her efforts at the Wangaratta Equine Hospital as well.

Cathryn Barrett

Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse

Cathryn joined Warby St after an extended working trip around Australia. In her career she has gained several years equine veterinary nursing experience at the Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital. She has completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. When not at work Cathryn enjoys spending time in the great outdoors.

Along with Cathryn's nursing duties she also plays a vital role in our Payroll and Accounts Payable.

Please make Cathryn welcome next time you are in at Warby Street Vets or Wangaratta Equine Hospital.

Shannon Filipek

Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse

Shannon began working at Warby Street as part of her studies in 2014 and has been here ever since! She has now completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

"I am very lucky to be working amongst such amazing professionals which are not only great work colleagues but are also part of a fantastic extended family. My favourite shift is our Surgery shift, it can be extremely busy but is always rewarding and its a beautiful thing to send animals home well. At home l enjoy gardening, hanging out with my fur babies, family and friends and horse riding."

Claire Gunn

Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse

Claire began work at Warby Street Veterinary Hospital in January 2016. She successfully completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2017.
Claire aspired to be a Vet Nurse as she has always cared for animals and wanted to help the animals in her community. Claire's favourite part of vet nursing is educating clients in pet health and assisting in emergency cases. When not at work Claire is a part time sheep and cattle farmer and for fun enjoys water skiing, spending time with friends and hand raising lambs.

Paige finished Secondary School in 2017 and has now joined our Nursing Team with weekly shifts. Please make Paige welcome when you next see her in the clinic.

"My favourite shift is working Reception as I get to meet so many different animals and their owners. When not at work I enjoy spending time on my family farm, water skiing in the warmer months and just being outdoors in general. In 2019 I'm looking forward to starting University in Wagga."
