Choosing a Puppy
Socialisation and Puppy Preschool
We recommend vaccination of pups at 8 and 12 weeks of age. At 8 weeks they will receive a C3 (canine 3) that provides immunity against 3 deadly viruses. These are Distemper (a neurological disease), Infectious Hepatitis (a disease of the liver) and Parvo (an awful gastroenteritis that is almost invariably fatal in young pups). At 12 weeks we recommend a C5 vaccine. The C5 boosts the first vaccination and also provides protection against Canine Cough (aka Kennel Cough). They are then protected against 5 pathogens (canine cough involves 2 pathogens) in total, hence C5. We recommend Canine Cough vaccination because the disease is spread by any nose to nose contact, not just at the boarding kennels. It also means your pup is ready to go to the boarding kennels if necessary as a canine cough vaccination is usually mandatory. After the 12 week vaccination dogs require a booster in 12 months time whereupon we will discuss a vaccination plan. At the time of vaccination we also give the pup a thorough physical examination to make sure they are healthy and doing well.
